About Us

Maker Mobile is a travelling classroom, hackspace, workshop, art studio and laboratory. Our goal is to explore the endless possibilities of imagination and creativity by engaging young people in hands-on projects and workshops exploring art, crafts, engineering and technology (sometimes all at the same time!)
Maker Mobile is a social venture started by four teachers who want to share their love for building creative projects and get young people involved in Vancouver’s maker community.
We are in the midst of transforming a humble truck into the Maker Mobile and its first appearance will be at The Vancouver International Children’s Festival in May 2013. We need your help to get fully equipped!

Farrell Segall is dedicated to achieving goals through dreaming, innovating, design and implementation of new and alternative solutions to real-world problems and scenarios.
Interests include - Outdoor recreation, camping and hiking activities - Conservation and protection of earth resources - Educational hands-on technology projects - Youth Leadership - Amateur Radio. Qualified in Electronic Engineering and experienced in process and product engineering in the semiconductor industry.

Zee Kesler left the Ontario College of Art and Design with a B.F.A. and an urge to create an inclusive community-based space outside of a gallery setting. Zee has worked in a variety of capacities as an Artist Intern with the Vancouver Park Board’s Artist In Communities Program, and as a workshop leader and installation artist at festivals and large public events.  Her personal practice is exploratory and multi-disciplinary utilizing found objects, soundscapes, collage and site-specific installations to explore ideas of interconnectivity, personal and public space. Check out her website for examples of her work with the community.

Simon Lyons has been driven to take things apart from an early age – sometimes with shocking results! He is a physicist by qualification and inclination, and always has several projects and experiments on the go. Electronics and embedded systems is his passion – in other words, making things that do things! Simon has taught high school physics and math for the past four years but wants to share more of what he feels is important, and enjoyable. The Maker Mobile is his vehicle for that (pun intended)!

Andrew Milne is a student and a teacher. He teaches an after school enrichment program at Science World, where enthusiastic students come to build robots and work on their own independent projects. He is also a graduate student at Simon Fraser University, where his research focuses on methods of teaching that use new technologies and hands-on projects.

We are currently selling DIY kits to fundraise for our vehicle renovation.

    Very cool maker mobile.
I’ve been collecting images and ideas at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mauimakers/sets/72157627648217174/
with the idea of building one for use around Maui.
I’d love to make one with various load-outs so you could have an electronics/arduino load, a robotic load, a metal or woodworking load, a kids education load, etc. … and have a place to store all those loads and use em and afford them!

Looking forward to seeing more from you folks!
